I enclose a copy of a letter I received 28th inst: from the Nippon Yusen Kaisha. It will be observed that the passage fares from home to Hong Kong have not yet been fixed; also that a reduction of ten per cent will be allowed on the amount already paid in advance for the voyage from Hong Kong to London. Towards the £161 mentioned, myself contributed £92-16-3. Ten per cent of this amount is £9-5-7¼. I submit respectfully that I am entitled to the benefit of this £9-5-7¼, while the Government receives the balance, £6-16-4¼.

Replying to your letter of the 21st inst, we observe that you travelled by the S.S. "Atsuta Maru" in May last year, and as you are returning within the 12 months, we shall be pleased to allow you a reduction of 10 per cent on the amount of passage money paid from Hong Kong to London, which according to our list was £161. We shall therefore be pleased to allow you a reduction of £16-2-0 on the passage fares by the S.S. "Tambamaru" from London to Hong Kong.
For the return journey London to Hong Kong the cost is £41-5-0 at 2½ fares.
